On Friday, November 8, 2024, the director of Gabarró Advocats -Inheritances- was invited to the program “La Selva” on TV3 to discuss issues related to inheritances, following a controversy sparked by the popular afternoon series “Como si fuera ayer.” In the series, a character passes away a week after making an inheritance agreement with her niece, conditioned on the niece taking care of her. When another niece learns about this, it creates conflict, leading to a threat of legal action. Meritxell Gabarró explained that the inheritance agreement would be valid because the aunt was fully aware and competent in signing it, so her will takes precedence.
In this appearance, Gabarró shared her insights with actress Mercè Comes, who plays the aunt in “Como si fuera ayer,” and confirmed that her character knew exactly what she was doing. She also spoke with actor Roger Coma, host of “Caído del Cielo,” a program focused on searching for heirs of estates with no known beneficiaries. During the discussion, they addressed the complexities of inheritance cases without beneficiaries, which pose legal and administrative challenges. These cases require inheritance law specialists to identify, often under tight deadlines, any relatives or individuals entitled to the estate, underscoring the need for precision, patience, and legal expertise. This perspective differs from the direct, well-defined heirs that Meritxell Gabarró usually discusses.
Specifically, she described a real case where naming an executor provided the perfect solution for ensuring the testators’ wishes regarding their pets. The testators designated their usual veterinarian as executor, with clear instructions for pet care after they passed away. Her intervention also led to a discussion on the family dynamics in inheritance processes, which can become emotionally intense. Through fiction, conflicts that often arise in real inheritance situations are portrayed, especially in cases of unexpected inheritances. This collaboration highlights the importance of planning one’s legacy and having experts to help manage it for family peace of mind.
Thanks to TV3 and the program’s director, Joan Rufas, for the invitation and to the entire “La Selva” team for the warm welcome.
